My husband and I ( and our dogs) live in a little rural village on the coast of Maine near Acadia National Park.

In 1988 I decided to give up my nursing career and pursue my dream of opening my own craft / gift shop, "Main St. Mercantile" in Northeast Harbor, Maine. I began selling my balsam products in my shop and I was delighted to find they were proven sellers. I knew there could be a potential market for these items. The next year I decided to "peddle" my products up and down the coast of Maine to other shops. The response was wonderful. In 1992 another new business venture was created, "Winter Wind Designs" and the rest is history! After 12 years of running my shop, I decided to devote all of my time to Winter Wind Designs. I am now happy to be working from our log cabin home and "Balsam Barn" where my husband and I produce our balsam fir gifts which we sell to shops throughout New England and to individual customers around the world.

After the balsam fir branches have been processed, we then dry the balsam in our barn using a woodstove. Each original design is inspired by the natural beauty of Maine.
